School Board Spotlight: Sherri Springate

Sherri Springate, member of the Woodford County Board of Education, has been serving Woodford County on the School Board for eight years.

Each day in Woodford County Public Schools, we are committed to offering students unique opportunities, positive relationships, and an exceptional education. As both a parent of Woodford County graduates and as a School Board member, Sherri Springate has seen these promises fulfilled to students time and again by teachers, administrators, and support staff.

Whether it be music and the arts, athletics, student government, or anything else a student may wish to pursue, Sherri knows that there is an adult in each school building who will “guide or push [students] in the direction that they need to go.” She remarks, “The opportunities are just incredible.” Mrs. Springate praises the school district for having systems in place that are “designed to help each and every child be able to graduate college, career, and life ready, no matter which path a student takes.”

In addition to the wonderful opportunities provided for students, Mrs. Springate is also pleased with the positive relationships that are fostered within each school in the district. Through her work with social services and now as a Juvenile Justice clinician, Sherri knows the power that positive relationships with teachers, administrators, coaches, and other adults have on children and teenagers. She says, “One of my questions that I always ask a child when I’m doing my court reports is, ‘Who at your school can you talk to if you have a problem?’ There is always at least one, sometimes three, four, five adults that the kids name off rapidly.” As a district, we strive to ensure that students of all ages are confident of the fact that the adults in the building care for them deeply and are there to help them grow, learn, and achieve.

“Relationship building is a strength of Woodford County,” says Sherri, “If you believe your teacher cares about you, it’s going to affect how you do your work.” For years now, Sherri has witnessed students succeeding in the classroom because of their teachers’ continued support. Teachers are capable of helping students realize their potential and that they can achieve anything. This is a necessary foundation for an exceptional education.

As a district, student learning is at the heart of everything we do. Sherri remarks on the cohesion of our schools in regards to curriculum and what is being taught in the classroom. She commends Superintendent Hawkins for his intentionality in ensuring that Woodford County Public Schools is a united system of schools with strong classroom instruction occurring in every building every day. Her children experienced the benefit of our strong curriculum beginning in Kindergarten and all the way through to graduation. As a Board member, Sherri is certainly proud of the quality education that each Woodford County student receives.

At a Woodford County Board of Education meeting, Mrs. Springate congratulates members of DECA for their wonderful accomplishments in various state and national competitions.

Mrs. Springate has thoroughly enjoyed her eight years on the School Board. She says that it has been a wonderful experience and that people’s time on the Board truly does make a difference for students. We are so grateful for Mrs. Springate’s dedication and service to Woodford County Public Schools. She is committed to supporting wonderful opportunities for students, positive relationships, and remarkable classroom instruction for all Woodford County students. Thank you for everything, Mrs. Springate!
