Throughout his life, Ambrose Wilson has been dedicated to public service. Mr. Wilson’s passion for community outreach stems from his father’s encouragement to view public service not only as an opportunity but as a commitment that one should make. Over the years, Mr. Wilson has volunteered his time in a variety of ways, including working with national organizations such as United Way, Lions Club, and the American Red Cross.

With the desire to serve his community and to help stimulate conversation regarding new school buildings for students in both Midway and the southern portion of the county, Ambrose decided to run for election to the Woodford County Board of Education. He has been committed to serving Woodford County in this way for 28 years. Since all three of his children and three of his six grandchildren have gone through our school district, the commitment has been especially personal for Mr. Wilson. Regarding his family’s experience with Woodford County Public Schools, Ambrose says, “The common thread among all six of them was not only the excellence of their teachers, principals, and staff but also the staff’s ability to individually meet their needs, and their needs were varied...When I talk to my children about the impact that Woodford County Public Schools had on them, they smile big and they always talk about the teachers, principals, and staff, how wonderful they were and how they helped them. [My children] talk about how [the teachers, principals, and staff] helped meet their individual needs and how they made them better people.”

Having been a father and grandfather to six Woodford County students, Mr. Wilson certainly understands how needs vary from student to student. Through his service on the Board of Education, he has recognized this even more. He is consistently amazed at the efforts of our Woodford County community to meet the physical needs (food, clothes, school supplies, etc.) of students in our district. He says, “Without the help of our community, a lot of these needs would not be met. I am extremely grateful for our community and for the individuals who understand the needs of our students and do their very best to make sure those needs are met.”

From Coats and Shoes for Kids to the Weekend Backpack program to Community Christmas and everything in between, Woodford Countians are always willing to help by contributing to these initiatives. Mr. Wilson believes that the community’s desire to support the children in our district by fulfilling their vital, physical needs is one tremendous reason for what is unique about Woodford County and our schools.

Another point of pride that Mr. Wilson has for our district is the ability of Team Woodford to know what students and teachers need within the school environment and to follow through to provide that for them. Examples of this are as follows: replacing aging school buildings that inhibit opportunities for our students, teachers, principals, and staff; being one of the first districts in the Commonwealth to implement full-day Kindergarten; establishing art and music education in each elementary school; and achieving a one-to-one ratio of electronic devices for students in 1st through 12th grades. Additionally, our schools have social workers, counselors, and resource officers in order to provide a safe, positive environment for every student and staff member.

At a Woodford County Board of Education meeting, Mr. Wilson congratulates Justin Lehmkuhler, WCHS Senior, for his participation in the Governor's Scholars Program.

We are so grateful for Mr. Wilson’s 28 years of dedication and service to Woodford County Public Schools. He continues to work diligently to ensure the best possible educational experience for our students. Thank you for everything, Mr. Wilson!
